Multiple resorts can be reached within an hour to 90 mins of Furano including Kamui Links, Sahoro, Tomamu and the active volcano of Asahidake. This gives a wide range of additional terrain and runs along with the ultimate ski experience of skiing and smoking volcano. Nearby backcountry highlights include Tokachidake, Furanodake and even cat skiing at Otoe Powder Cat.

Furano receives over 10 meters of snow per season and this being central Hokkaido means its some of the lightest, driest snow on earth. The resort has close to 900 meters of vertical and some fantastic runs for all levels of skiers. Furano also has excellent, easily accessible side country and back country without the crowds of Niseko or some other Japanese resorts.
In summer Furano transforms into a lush, green paradise with temperatures in the mid to high twenties. Surrounding fields are carpeted in flowers, with hiking and biking replacing skiing. This time of year allows visitors to make the most of Furanos locally grown fruits and vegetables that the town is renown across Japan for and multiple cultural and food festvials take place across the town. Autumn and spring are also incredible times to visit with cherry blossoms or autumn foliage against a backdrop of snowcapped mountains.
It would be hard to talk about Furano and not mention the food. Furano is renown across Japan for its locally grown fruit and vegetables and one the standout elements of the food scene is that the town itself is a real Japanese farming town with an array of excellent restaurants including izakayas, shabushabu, soup curry, fine French dining and probably the best Pizza you’ve ever had! The house provides a list of recommended restaurants all within a 5 to 10 minute drive and management can help book. You can also visit the market or supermarkets, get the best in season produce and cook up a storm in the kitchen.
